The holiday spirit has come to Baraga County. On Sunday, the chamber of commerce officially began the region’s decor tour, posting a map with participating addresses for people to visit. Deb Stouffer says the tradition allows people to plan an evening to drive around the area and look at the different ways people display their celebration of the season.
“We’ve heard stories of people picking up their parents, for example, from the nursing home and taking them out for a ride. So it’s a way for people to engage in the holiday spirit and maybe for people that aren’t very mobile, if you just get into a vehicle and ride. So it really is just another avenue of celebrating the community and celebrating the holiday season.” – Deb Stouffer, executive director, Baraga County Chamber of Commerce

The decor tour has many locations near the village of L’Anse and some around Baraga. Searching for lights won’t be the only way the community can celebrate Christmas and the holiday spirit, though. On Saturday, the Baraga County Convention and Visitor Bureau’s Light Up Baraga County comes to L’Anse. Barb McEwen says the VFW has taken on a larger role in recent years and will host children’s activities in the afternoon. A special guest might even make an appearance. At 5 p.m., the community will line up for the parade.
Those interested in getting their holiday festivities started can check out the holiday decor tour map found online or at the chamber office. Those interested in registering for the Light Up Baraga County parade can find a printable form online or pick one up from the village office.
