Northern Michigan University’s PBS television station will receive a $576,500 grant from the Public Media Bridge Fund to stabilize its operations in the coming year.
The Bridge Fund was established in response to the elimination of federally supported grants provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting through its Community Service Grants.
General Manager of WNMU Public Media Patrick Lakenen says the Bridge Fund’s grant will allow the station to address critical infrastructure needs while protecting education and national programming, public safety information, and lifelong learning resources, as well as locally produced content.
He adds the broadcaster is grateful for the one-time award and generous contributions from supporters. Those funds will also support and reinforce WNMU-TV’s financial foundation.
WNMU-TV shared that while its station qualified for this significant grant award, its affiliate WNMU-FM radio station did not meet eligibility criteria for the Public Media Bridge Fund grant program.
