Fifty years later, the Upper Peninsula still remembers when the gales of November came early.
On Nov. 10, 2025, many communities, residents and programs marked the 50th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. The story of the Great Lakes’ largest shipping disaster still fascinates many today.
Wednesday evening, author of the New York Times bestseller “Gales of November,” John U. Bacon, will offer a presentation on campus at Michigan Technological University. Bacon details the ship’s history and the facts of its final voyage.
“The Gales of November: The Untold Story of the Edmund Fitzgerald” with John U. Bacon will start at 5:30 p.m. inside the MUB Ballroom B. The event is free to attend and will offer an opportunity to meet the author and have a copy of “Gales of November” signed.
