The holiday season brings family photos and visits with Santa, and now pet owners can include their furry friends in the tradition.
The Copper Country Humane Society will host pet pictures with Santa on Saturday starting at noon at the Nara Chalet and Interpretive Center. The $10 photos serve as a fundraiser to support the humane society while offering the community a chance to commemorate the holidays with their pets.
“There will be two choices for backgrounds, so you can pick which background you would like to have behind Santa,” said Rebecca Brink, assistant shelter manager at CCHS. “I will be there with my camera, setting it all up. I’ll take a whole bunch of pictures. We’ll do our best to get the prettiest picture possible.”
Brink said the shelter staff understands that pets may not always cooperate for photos.
“We don’t make any promises that they will be absolutely perfect. It depends on the pet’s cooperation,” she said. “You’re welcome to come inside, get all registered and everything, and then we can let you know when we have like a lull. So if your dog is nervous, we can have them be like the only one in there.”
Pet owners should ensure their animals are comfortable around people for the safety of everyone involved, including Santa. Humane Society staff have also crafted hand-made cat toys, cat owners can purchase while waiting to take photos. The cat toys include catnip and fit the season with some shaped like Christmas lights or a cookie for Santa.
