Jenn Jenich-Laplander, Executive Director of the Keweenaw Health Foundation presents a $5,000 check to Laurel Maki, Co-Founder 31Backpacks, Inc.
The 31 Backpacks food program has received a $5,000 boost from the Keweenaw Health Foundation.
The funding will support 31 Backpacks’ effort to make sure all area children have access to nutritious food when they’re not able to eat at school over the holiday break.
Foundation Executive Director Jenn Jenich-Laplander described 31 Backpacks as a lifeline for many students, and said they’re honored to help strengthen their efforts during a season when the need is especially urgent.
31 Backpacks’ annual “Big Pack” will take place this coming Monday. Dozens of volunteers will gather at 6:00 at Glad Tidings Church in Hancock to fill the extra food bags that will be distributed to kids who need them through local schools.
