Sixty local non-profits will earn a significant portion of this year’s funding through today’s Copper Shores Community Health Foundation Giving Tuesday drive.
The Foundation has put up $200,000 in matching funds, which will be prorated to amplify donations received by the individual organizations.
Foundation spokesman Mike Babcock says you can donate to the group or groups of your choice… or you can boost all of them by adding to the amplification fund…
If you give $100, some portion of that is going to every one of these organizations, so it’s a really nice way to hit the entire non-profit community.
From a modest start with a dozen participating organizations nine years ago, Babcock says the campaign has become a critical part of the local non-profit support structure…
For almost every one of these organizations, this is the single fundraiser they do over the year.
And it’s no longer limited just to today. More than a half-million dollars has already been donated by 830 benefactors in 25 states.
Today is the focus, however, and Copper Shores will be hosting a live celebration at the Copper Country Mall, where you can meet many of the participating organizations…
They’ll have information about what they do, how you can support them, how you can volunteer. More than half of the causes that are part of Giving Tuesday have signed up to be part of that event.
There’ll also be some fun activities and giveaways…
Most of the raffle prizes are things that are supporting these non-profits. We’ll also have some Keweenaw Cash available as one of the prizes – all kinds of good stuff.
The Copper Country Mall event will run from 10 until 6. Donations can be made in person there.
Donations can also be made…
- Online at CopperShores.org until 11:59 tonight;
- In person at the Copper Shores office in Hancock until 4:30 this afternoon;
- By mail, as long as the envelope is postmarked by today.
