High School
On the opening night of the boys high school basketball season…
- Dollar Bay-Tamarack City got past Houghton 74-70. Baron Colbert had 26 points, and Liam Tourtillott added 18 for the Blue Bolts. Houghton’s Terrance Nolan led all scorers with 31 points, and Mason Mayo chipped in 14.
- Calumet fell to Bessemer 50-41. John Golus paced the Copper Kings with 14 points. Jayden Verrett netted 20 for the Speedboys.
- Baraga stopped Jeffers 44-35.
- L’Anse swamped Ontonagon 62-44. After falling behind 17-4, the Purple Hornets went on a 30-5 run to take command. Keegan Davidson and Sam Lee each scored 18 for L’Anse. Mason Pestka led the Gladiators with 18.
- Westwood routed West Iron County 69-16.
On the basketball schedule tonight…

The schedule has been announced for this year’s MacInnes Holiday Classic hockey showcase. In honor of the event’s 50th anniversary, the traditional field of four local hockey teams has been expanded to eight, with four visiting guest teams.

NBA
The Pistons held off the Hawks 99-98 last night. Cade Cunningham’s layup with 17 seconds remaining gave Detroit a four-point lead. After Caris LeVert missed two free throws, Atlanta sank a three-pointer with two seconds remaining, then fouled Daniss Jenkins. Jenkins missed both of his free throws, but Atlanta didn’t have time to attempt a final shot. Jalen Duren led Detroit with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
The Bucks couldn’t hold a late lead, and lost a 129-126 nailbiter to the Wizards last evening. Kevin Porter, Jr. scored 30 points.
The Pistons visit the Bucks tomorrow, with coverage at 7:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
NFL
Drake May threw two touchdown passes as the resurgent Patriots stuffed the struggling Giants 33-15 last night.
