The Red Wings couldn’t overcome an early deficit, and fell to the Devils 4-3 last night. New Jersey built a 3-1 lead in the first period, and held on for the win. Alex DeBrincat scored early for Detroit. James van Riemsdyk found the net in the second period, and Dylan Larkin’s third-period tally made it close. Cam Talbot made 15 saves, and took the loss in net.
The Wings entertain the Predators tomorrow, with coverage at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons built a 16-point halftime lead, then held off the Pacers 122-117 last evening. Cade Cunningham had 24 points and 11 rebounds, and Jalen Duren netted 17 points with 12 rebounds.
The Pistons have won 13 straight games, which ties the all-time team record. They’ll visit the Celtics for an NBA Cup game tomorrow.
The Bucks dropped a 115-103 decision to the Trail Blazers last night. Bobby Portis scored 22 points.
The Bucks visit the Heat for an NBA Cup game tomorrow.
NFL
The 49ers smothered the Panthers 20-9 last night.

MTU
The annual Marketplace Foods “Kids Day” MTU ticket voucher giveaway begins at 4:00 this afternoon at the store in Houghton. Four hundred Michigan Tech youth hockey tickets and 100 youth basketball ticket vouchers will be given away to families with kids between the ages of 3 and 18 on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be a limit of four youth hockey tickets per family.
The “Kids Day” ticket vouchers will be good for Saturday’s men’s basketball game in the afternoon, or the hockey game in the evening. Fans must exchange their vouchers for actual game tickets at the SDC ticket office by noon on Friday.
