On Friday, Visit Keweenaw welcomes the community to its new office in downtown Houghton. The tourism bureau shares the space with the Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce, which recently moved out of the Hodge Building at Franklin Square. The chamber and Visit Keweenaw often work together to promote the Copper Country and many businesses in the community.
“As we know, Chamber of Commerce deals with a lot of our local businesses. While we primarily deal with lodging, it’s certainly an advantage for, let’s say, a business owner to come in here, and I can hear about what’s new too. So you’re going to get a lot more face time from all of us with both of our memberships. We’re all right in a row here. So it’s really one-stop shopping for tourist attractions and all businesses in the Keweenaw. So that makes a lot of sense,” said Visit Keweenaw Managing Director Jesse Wiederhold.
Wiederhold says the new space offers a lofted area where planning meetings for events like Jibba Jabba have already taken place. The loft offers an open floor plan that will soon host programs, events and meetings. The Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce has signed a five-year lease with Visit Keweenaw to set up shop inside 418 Shelden Avenue. President of the Chamber’s Board of Directors Chad Vanbennekom adds it’s exciting to have a new home for the chamber and a space where business leaders in the community can come and seek advice or guidance.
