High School
In high school hockey last night…
- Hancock steamrolled Manistique 10-2.
- Cam Anderson had a hat trick, as Jeffers buried Negaunee 9-1.
In volleyball last evening, Forest Park cruised past Atlanta 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-14) in a Division Four state quarterfinal. The Trojans improve to 42-1-0, and will face Fowler in a semifinal match tomorrow at noon at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek, with coverage on 99.1 WIKB. Ubly and Mendon will meet in the other semifinal.
College Volleyball
Quarterfinals in the GLIAC volleyball tournament will be played tonight…
- Michigan Tech is seeded seventh, and will open at Wayne State.
- Northern Michigan is seeded third, and will host Parkside.
NHL
Nate Danielson notched his first goal and first assist in the NHL, as the Red Wings dumped the Kraken 4-2 last night. Lucas Raymond, Emmitt Finnie and Dylan Larkin also found the net, and Cam Talbot stopped 20 shots.
The Wings welcome the Islanders tomorrow. Because of NFL football, coverage will begin at 6:45 on KBear 102.3.
NBA
The Pistons grabbed their 11th straight win, with a 120-112 triumph over the Hawks last night. Cade Cunningham returned, and led Detroit with 25 points and 10 assists. Jalen Duren added 24 points.
The Pistons will visit the Bucks on Saturday.
The Bucks entertain the 76ers tomorrow.
Milwaukee will probably be without Giannis Antetokounmpo for the next couple of weeks, while he recovers from a groin strain suffered in Monday’s loss to the Cavaliers.
MLB
Gleyber Torres will be back at second base for the Tigers next season. Torres accepted Detroit’s $22 million qualifying offer.
Brandon Woodruff will be back with the Brewers next season, after all. Woodruff had opted out of the final year of his contract, but also accepted Milwaukee’s qualifying offer of more than $20 million.
Both were restricted free agents. If they had decided to sign elsewhere, their teams would have received compensatory draft picks. Both will become unrestricted free agents next fall.
