Lake Linden Hubbell Schools appoints Emily Geiger as interim superintendent for the district. Monday night, at a special meeting, the LL-HS Board of Education met to discuss and consider three interim superintendent candidates.
The board of education voted 6-1 to select Geiger. Board member David Anderson cast the lone dissenting vote. The district will begin contract negotiations with Geiger immediately.
Geiger will replace CCISD Superintendent James Rautiola, who has served in the interim role since November 1st when he took over for Craig Sundblad. The appointment addresses ongoing concerns from parents, residents, teachers and staff about leadership instability following the departure of former superintendent Brad Codere, who officially retired in June 2025 after several concerns were brought to the board’s attention.
Geiger brings extensive experience in education and science to the role. She earned degrees in biochemistry and molecular biology from Michigan Technological University, completing her doctorate in 2015. Her career in education began in 2012 as an adjunct instructor at Gogebic Community College, where she was promoted to biochemistry instructor in 2018. Since 2023, Geiger has worked with the Copper Country Intermediate School District as the MiSTEM Regional Network Director in the Western Upper Peninsula.
Board members Jennifer Beaudette and Patricia Burton will represent the district in contract negotiations. The district aims to have Geiger enter the building before holiday breaks start so she can meet with staff and adjust to the role.
Geiger’s term will expire June 30, 2026, when a permanent superintendent is scheduled to begin. The district plans to start the search for a full-time superintendent in spring, with the position beginning July 1, 2026.
The board has directed the Michigan Association of School Boards to post the superintendent position ahead of the traditional hiring season. District officials hope the early start will help them compete with other districts across the state that are also seeking superintendents.
