High School
In high school volleyball regional finals last night…
- Jeffers’ season ended with a hard-fought 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-20) Division Three loss to Traverse City St. Francis. The first two sets played out almost identically, with the Gladiators opening up big leads, and the Jets recovering to narrow the gaps. The third set was closer, with Jeffers taking a 20-19 lead after a six-point service run by Kloe Verran. St. Francis took a time out, regrouped, and scored the final six points to take the set and the match.
- Forest Park advanced to the Division Four quarterfinals with an easy 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-14) sweep of Ishpeming. The Trojans will face Atlanta Tuesday at 6:00 at Manistique High School. The Huskies eliminated Newberry 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-23) last evening. Tuesday’s quarterfinal match will be broadcast on 99.1 WIKB.

- The fifth-seeded NMU women’s team will face top-seeded Grand Valley State in today’s first semifinal match at 1:00 in Allendale. Second-seeded Parkside will play third-seeded Saginaw Valley State in the other semifinal.
- The third-seeded NMU men will face second-seeded Roosevelt in a 2:00 semifinal game today at University Center. Top-seeded Saginaw Valley State will play fifth-seeded Davenport.
College Basketball
The MTU and NMU men’s and women’s basketball teams compete at the NCAA D-II Midwest Region Tip-Off at Wisconsin Dells this weekend.

The Red Wings snapped their three-game losing streak with a 6-3 win over the Ducks last night. Alex deBrincat had two goals and an assist, and Moritz Seider, Michael Rasmussen, Axel Sandin-Pellikka and Dylan Larkin each scored once.
John Gibson gave up two goals before leaving the game with an upper-body injury at the end of the second period. Cam Talbot replaced him. Ginson will be evaluated today.
