After years of work, the Keweenaw snowmobile Club has a new home.
Moving the club’s groomer barn and maintenance garage from Ahmeek to calumet took many partners to get the job done. In 2023, the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club completed work to build the structure of the new calumet garage. And since it has been working to move its equipment and tools over, after work inside was completed. The Keweenaw snowmobile club’s move to Calumet will centralize the groomer barn along the trail network that stretches from Toivola-Tapiola to Copper Harbor.
On Saturday, the Keweenaw snowmobile club will invite the community to the new maintenance facility and trail head. The organization will cut a ribbon officially opening the space and share lunch with attendees. Club members will also pprovidetours of the new barn during the grand opening. Each day throughout the snowmobile season, the Keweenaw snowmobile club maintains more than 235 miles of trails. In December, the club will work with city patterns and the Michigan Department of Transportation to lock the Portage Lake lift bridge in place for the snowmobile bridge crossing.
