Lake Linden Hubbell Schools continues to search for new superintendent to replace Brad Codere, who officially retired in June. In the interim, former Superintendent Craig Sundblad has filled in. However, he will end his time with the district at the end of October. On Tuesday the Lake Linden Hubbell Schools Board of Education held a special meeting to determine its path forward.
Earlier this month, the Lake Linden Hubbell School district interviewed two candidates for superintendent. Going on to extend an offer to Shannon New to fill the role. She has since declined the offer. Sending the board of education back to square one.
Members of the board decided Lake Linden Hubbell Schools will continue its search for a superintendent through the MASB.
I don’t think you need to change the salary range, your selection criteria, even looking way down the road, your first-round interview questions. All I would need then would be, if you’re going to say July 1st, I could put together a timeline for you and then have that sent. I can send that to you and you can approve it at your next board meeting. – Tim Hall, Michigan Association of School Boards
All schools in the state of Michigan are required to employ a Superintendent. When a superintendent steps away from a school district, the board of education must appoint someone to the role within 24 hours. Board member Courtney Holzberger expressed she would like to see Elementary Principal Dr. Lisa Ruhman step into the interim role on November 1st, after offering to take the position.
I mean, I’m very concerned about this. Dr. Ruhman has emailed the board and offered to serve as interim superintendent. We have heard from teachers. We have heard from staff. We have heard from parents that they all, she has support. This is an interim role until June 30th and we’re going to continue this uproar in the district by posting the position. – Courtney Holzberger, Member, Lake Linden Hubbell Schools Board of Education
Other board members dismissed Holzberger’s comments to appoint Dr. Ruhman to Interim Superintendent. In favor of using services provided by the Copper Country Intermediate School District. A motion was made to post the interim superintendent position to the MASB job board.
Holzberger was the only member to vote no. The Lake Linden Hubbell school district will appoint the CCISD as superintendent starting November 1st, while a separate search for an interim superintendent and 6/12 principal occurs. MASB’s Tim Hall will submit a timeline and plan for the superintendent position search that will start ahead of the traditional job search time frame. The board anticipates accepting that plan at the November 10th board meeting.
