The U.P. Cross Country Coaches Association has released its season awards. They divide their teams into “All-State” – the top-15, and “All UP” – runners 16 through 25 in each division.
In Division Two…
- Cameron Anderson from Jeffers was named the top boys runner, with Landon Larson second and Branson Anderson fourth. Blake Heltunen, Kasen Helminen, Tage Rajala and Brexton Kinnunen from the Jets also made the All-State team.
- Hancock’s Jill Berg was placed third on the girls squad, with teammate Lydia Pelli fifth. Lauren Larson of the Bulldogs also made the All-State list, along with Remi Coponen and Claire Heltunen from Jeffers. Hancock runners Marie Thompson and Abby Bradway made the All-UP roster, along with Lacey Mattson from West Iron County.
In Division One…
- Houghton’s Benjamin Hemmer placed seventh, and teammate Brandon Van Karsen joined him on the boys All-State roster. Anderson Limkemann, Gabriel Hjerstedt and Coale Ceane were placed on the All-UP team.
- Holly Cooke of the Gremlins was slotted fourth on the girls roster, and Sela Niska fifth. Jovie Williams, Tessa Rautiola and Romi Mattson were placed on the All-UP team, along with Bethany McParlan and Maija Keranen from Calumet.
In Division Three…
- Niko Reed from Dollar Bay-Tamarack City made the boys All-State list, along with William Hoffman and Hayden Smith from Forest Park. Landon Halkola and Caleb Kentala from the Jets made the All-UP roster, along with Reuben Rasner and Joey Mainville from Forest Park.
- On the girls side, Lily Froese from L’Anse was placed fifth, with fellow Purple Hornets Kwynn Voskuhl, Princess Pierre and Aaliyah Maki joining her on the All-State team, along with Bree Besonen from Ewen-Trout Creek. Emma Besonen and Alyssa DeCremer from Ewen-Trout Creek were placed on the All-UP roster, along with Sylvia Aho from Chassell, Lily Halkola from Dollar Bay-Tamarack City and Aybri Sorenson from Baraga.

College Volleyball
The Michigan Tech volleyball team plays at Northern Michigan tonight.
NHL
The Red Wings visit the Blues tonight. Coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Wings have sent rookie Michael Brandsegg-Nygård down to Grand Rapids.
NBA
The Pistons lost to the Cavaliers 116-95 last night. Cade Cunningham led Detroit with 12 points on three-of-14 shooting. The Pistons built an early 24-22 lead, but then missed 19 consecutive shots to fall out of contention.
The Pistons entertain the Magic tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Bucks entertain the Knicks tonight.
MLB
The Dodgers shaded the Blue Jays 6-5 in 18 innings last night, and took a 2-1 lead in the World Series. Freddie Freeman’s solo homer finally ended the marathon. The teams used a combined 19 pitchers, so they’ll both have tired bullpens for tonight’s game four in Los Angeles.
NFL
In last night’s NFL contest, the Chiefs throttled the Commanders 28-7.
