College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team completed a weekend sweep of Ferris State with a 4-2 victory Saturday night. Max Koskipirtti opened the scoring for the Huskies, and Michael Cicek, Carson Latimer and Kalem Parker each scored their first NCAA goals. Owen Bartoszkiewicz made 28 saves.
A four-goal third period boosted the top-ranked Michigan State hockey team to a 6-2 victory over Northern Michigan last evening. Caiden Gault scored both Wildcats’ goals. Oliver Auyeung-Ashton stopped 39 shots in net. A chippy game blew up late in the third period, with a wild brawl that resulted in three penalties for each team, including a game misconduct for Cole Ward of the Spartans. The teams totaled 2o combined penalties in the contest.
College Volleyball
The Michigan Tech volleyball team pulled out a 3-2 (19-25, 25-17, 25-20, 15-25, 15-9) victory over Grand Valley State Saturday. Rachel Zurek led all players with 14 kills. Paige Wagner added 11 kills and eight blocks. Madelyn Kreider had a season-high 45 assists, and Julia Fledderjohn recorded 24 digs.
The NMU volleyball squad dropped a 3-2 (23-25, 25-21, 25-21, 9-25, 15-17) decision to Wayne State. Madison York had 18 kills, Liesl Haugen had 24 digs, and Allie Barlow notched 47 assists.
College Football
The Tech football team retained the Miner’s Cup for the 15th consecutive year, with a 56-17 rout of Northern in the annual rivalry game Saturday. Freshman quarterback Elliott Larner ran for four touchdowns and passed for another. Jake Rueff added two rushing touchdowns, and Nic Nora returned a punt 60 yards for a score.
College Soccer
The MTU women’s soccer team will play at fifth-ranked Grand Valley State this afternoon.
The NMU women’s soccer team plays at Ferris today.
The Northern Michigan men’s soccer team hosts St. Cloud State this afternoon.
NHL
The Red Wings spotted the Blues a four-goal lead, then roared back to claim a 6-4 victory Saturday night. Simon Edvinsson scored Detroit’s final two goals, after Jonatan Berggren, Emmitt Finnie, J.T. Compher and Alex De Brincat had netted one each.
The Wings visit the Blues on Tuesday. Coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons host the Celtics this afternoon. Coverage will begin at 3:05 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Bucks visit the Cavaliers today.
MLB
The Dodgers evened up the World Series with a 5-1 win over the Blue Jays Saturday night. Each team has won one game. The Series moves from Toronto to Los Angeles for game three Monday night.
NFL
The Packers visit the Steelers in the Sunday night game. Receiver Christian Watson has been activated off the injury list, and could make his season debut tonight after recovering from ACL surgery. Coverage begins at 7:30 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Lions have this weekend off.
