Robert “Bob” Carl Weirauch, of Tamarack City, MI, passed away peacefully at home under the care of his loving wife on Monday, October 20th, at the age of 84. Over the past two years he faced several devastating health issues, yet through them all he remained as strong and brave as a lion, including through this last courageous battle with lung cancer.
Bob was born in Hancock, Michigan and raised in Chassell, but lived most of his life in Tamarack City. He attended the Green Barber College in Detroit and began his career as a barber in Hancock where he first worked and later opened his own shop. He then became an employee of Michigan Technological University where he worked for many years as a ski lift operator at Mont Ripley Ski Hill and as a greens attendant and mechanic at the Portage Lake Golf Course until his retirement.
Bob was proud to have served in the U.S. Naval Reserves. Though he was never deployed, he took great pride in being a veteran and held his service in high regard.
He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life — motorcycling, spending time at his hunting blind, boating to Isle Royale, fishing, catching up with friends over coffee at Burger King, or tinkering with projects in his garage. Those who knew Bob will remember his straightforward, sometimes gruff demeanor paired with his funny, witty side along with his caring heart and steadfast dedication to his family.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine (Darcy) Weirauch, his children Shelise Weirauch and Sean Weirauch, and his granddaughter Coralee Daugherty (his little butterfly).
He was preceded in death by his father Carl Weirauch, mother Ruth (Carpenter-Weirauch) Fossa, sister Bonnie Gelo and sister Jane Potvin
A visitation to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden on Saturday, October 25th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the funeral service at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Family and friends are welcome to attend and share memories of Bob.
Bob will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
