High School
In high school football last night…
- Calumet steamrolled Houghton 46-0. The Copper Kings scored on their first seven possessions. Tyler Halonen opened the assault with touchdown runs of 43 and 5 yards. A 32-yard Halonen pass to Oskar Loukus, a 2-yard scoring run by Trent Anderson, and two more Halonen TD tosses (7 yards to Ben Anderson and 33 yards to Erik Loukus) closed out the first half. Sawyer Berg found the endzone after a 17-yard run on Calumet’s opening possession of the second half, as the Kings played out the game with their reserves under a running clock. The Kings’ defense held the Gremlins to just 65 yards – mostly from Brayden Goudge, who ran for 44 yards and completed a 4-yard pass. Halonen rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns, and completed 3 of 6 passes for 72 yards and three scores. Trent Anderson added 54 yards on 9 carries, and Berg contributed 50 yards on eight hauls – each scored a touchdown. Calumet recovered one Houghton fumble, and Oskar Loukus and Andrew Juntilla each had an interception. Hear the game replay here.

- L’Anse fell to Bark River-Harris 44-16.
- Lake Linden-Hubbell outscored North Central 52-34. Brady Axford completed 7 of 12 passes for 113 yards and 2 touchdowns. He ran for 153 yards and 3 scores. Josh Daavettila rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown, and also threw a touchdown pass. Ashton Sullivan intercepted a Jets pass.
- Ontonagon dropped a 24-8 decision to Ironwood.
- Forest Park suffered a 32-0 homecoming loss to Gogebic.

- Dollar Bay-Tamarack City defeated Chassell 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 21-16). For the Blue Bolts, Kiera Isaacson had 21 digs to pass the 1,000 mark in her career. She also had 12 kills and 5 aces. Kiya Kemppainen had 11 digs, Kassie Heinonen had 8 digs and 8 aces, and Sylvie Kentala had 15 assists. For the Panthers, Sylvia Aho had 17 assists, 4 digs, and 2 aces; Elli Kuntze 7 kills, 1 block, 12 digs and 1 ace; Dusty Lippold 5 kills, 6 digs, 1 block and 2 aces; and Oriana Olson 5 kills, 2 blocks, 5 digs and 1 ace.

College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team opened its season with a 6-3 loss at eighth-ranked Minnesota last night. Goals by Tom Leppa, Ryan Abraham and Rylan Gould powered the Huskies to a 3-2 lead after two periods, but the Golden Gophers erupted for four scores in the third stanza to claim the win. Owen Bartoszkiewicz took the loss in net. That set wraps up this afternoon in Minneapolis.
Northern Michigan’s hockey team begins its campaign tonight and tomorrow at the University of Massachusetts.
College Volleyball
The Michigan Tech volleyball team swept Lake Superior State 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-18) last night. Brooke Dzwik led a balanced attack with 7 kills. The Huskies play at Saginaw Valley State today.
The Northern Michigan volleyball squad pulled out a 3-2 (25-19, 13-25, 25-18, 25-27, 15-9) victory at Saginaw Valley State last evening. The Wildcats visit Lake Superior State today.
College Soccer
The MTU women’s soccer team fell 2-1 to Saginaw Valley State last night. Reilly Lovercheck netted the Huskies’ sole goal. Tech will host Ferris State tomorrow at noon.
Hannah Kastamo scored 2 goals in the final 10 minutes to give the NMU women’s soccer team a 2-1 victory over Ferris last night. The Wildcats welcome Saginaw Valley State tomorrow at noon.
The NMU men’s team plays at St. Cloud State tomorrow afternoon.
College Football
The Michigan Tech football team resumes its campaign today at Wayne State.
The Northern football team plays at Saginaw Valley State.
MLB
The Tigers open their American League Divisional playoff series against the Mariners tonight in Seattle. Troy Melton will start against George Kirby. Coverage will begin at 8:10 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Yankees visit the Blue Jays to open the other American League series this afternoon.
The Brewers will host the Cubs in their Divisional series beginning this afternoon. Freddy Peralta will pitch against Matthew Boyd.
The Dodgers visit the Phillies in the other National League Divisional game this evening.

The Red Wings host the Maple Leafs for a preseason contest tonight.
