The Upper Peninsula celebrates its favorite color today – plaid.
The annual Plaidurday holiday will be noted with a community group photo tonight at 7:00 behind the Keweenaw Brewing Company in downtown Houghton. All are welcome – the only requirement is that you wear something visible that’s plaid.
The photo is one element of Houghton’s new Canal Color Fest. The Brew Street celebration along Lakeshore Drive will run from 6 until midnight tonight, with beverages, food trucks, and musical performances by Toni Saari, The Make Believe Spurs, and the Bob Hiltunen Band.
Tomorrow, the Keweenaw Color Run steps off at 9:30 at the downtown pier. It’s a fun, untimed event. Participants will intermittently be splashed with vibrant colors to honor the developing natural leaf colors along the Portage. It’s a fundraiser for the Keweenaw Young Professionals group.
The run will be followed by Houghton’s Fall Fest – a family-friendly event on the pier from 11 until 2. Highlights include tractor rides and apple cider pressing. Vendors will have fall-themed items for sale, including pumpkins. Pumpkin bowling will be offered for the kids.
KBC is donating $1 for every drink they sell tonight and tomorrow to the Carnegie Museum. Non-alcoholic options will be available.
