Four of the Copper Country’s most fun fall events will come together for one full weekend in 2025. Un the encompassing name canal colors fest, Houghton’s Fall Fest, Visit Keweenaw’s Brew Street and Plaidurday, and the Keweenaw Young Professional’s Color Run take over the portage canal Friday and Saturday.
After bringing people together the past couple years. But often competing on the same weekend, four fall events in Houghton will join forces. This year Visit Keweenaw, Keweenaw Young Professionals, and the City of Houghton chose to bring their events together under the canal colors festival to enhance the full weekend of activity.
That’s why we kind of named it like that. So Houghton totally had the ball fest identity naming canal colors. That’s what we’re poised to add more cities and more events in the future. We truly do hope that it can be a broader celebration across the key one. Driving up today, I see that twin lakes area is getting really red, tied to by the canal. We’re starting to get some of these colors and other areas are still pretty green. So perhaps this could be extended to have more events all over the key one. – Jesse Wiederhold, Public Events Coordinator, Visit Keweenaw
Brew Street this weekend will help support the Carnegie Museum between Friday and Saturday night. Visit Keweenaw’s Jesse Wiederhold adds people will want to be down behind KBC for the Plaidurday photo on Friday night.
Looking back at those original times when we hosted this photo at Houghton high school, truly a sea of plaid. Was incredible having everyone formed together, um seeing so many smiling faces. It really brought a lot of joy to the students as well. And having their parents and maybe even grandparents come, we know that people came really far, right? It’s a big weekend. – Jesse Wiederhold, Public Events Coordinator, Visit Keweenaw
On Saturday the morning starts with KYP’s annual Color Run.
You’ll see lots of strollers in the race, um, beautiful course. And it goes along the canal to Michigan tech and back. Then the Fall Fest really wraps it all up, especially for the families, the little kiddos. That’s the time you want to bring your kids out. Um, you know, any age seriously would enjoy this, uh, the Saturday festivities. The Brew Street fundraiser is on Friday and Saturday night. So, every social district cup is a dollar for the Carnegie Museum. – Jesse Wiederhold, Public Events Coordinator, Visit Keweenaw
