College Soccer
The Tech women’s soccer team fell 4-0 to third-ranked Grand Valley yesterday.
The NMU women’s soccer team blasted Davenport 4-0 yesterday. Irene Kiilunen scored twice for the Wildcats.
The NMU men’s team dropped a 1-0 decision to Roosevelt yesterday.
MLB
The Tigers closed their regular season with a 4-3 loss to the Red Sox yesterday. Chris Paddack pitched into the fifth, and allowed all four Boston runs on seven hits. Javier Báez hit a three-run homer.
Cleveland won, so the loss left the Tigers in second place in the American League Central Division. They will open the playoffs tomorrow afternoon at Cleveland. Coverage will begin at 12:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers closed their regular campaign with a 4-2 victory over the Reds. Danny Jansen homered. Milwaukee has a bye in the wild card playoff round.
Pitcher Eric Fedde will not be part of the Brewers’ postseason. He was designated for assignment yesterday.
NHL
The Red Wings host the Penguins in a preseason game this evening.
NFL
The Lions crunched the Browns 34-10 yesterday. Jared Goff threw two touchdown passes, with one interception. The Detroit defense picked off two Joe Flacco passes, and forced a fumble. Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 91 yards and one touchdown. Kalif Raymond returned a punt 65 yards for a score.
It was a costly win, as Detroit lost both starting cornerbacks to injuries. Terrion Arnold hurt his shoulder while making a tackle, and D.J. Reed left with a hamstring injury. Evaluations will be made today, but coach Dan Campbell said both will likely miss next week’s game, and maybe more.
The Packers and Cowboys played to a 40-40 tie last night. Green Bay built an early lead, but Dallas came back to hold the advantage at halftime. The teams traded touchdowns in the second half, until Bndon McManus tied the game with a 53-yard field goal at the end of the fourth quarter. Each team booted a field goal in overtime. Jordan Love threw three touchdown passes, and Josh Jacobs ran for two scores.
