High School
In high school football Saturday…
- Lake Linden-Hubbell’s game against Forest Park was called off because the Trojans didn’t have enough healthy players to field a team.
- Ontonagon lost 60-6 to Gogebic.
In high school volleyball Saturday…
- Calumet went 4-2-1 and took second place at their Detroit-area tournament. The Copper Kings defeated Ubly and Grass Lake in bracket play, before losing to Plymouth Christian in the finals.

College Volleyball
The Michigan Tech volleyball completed a weekend sweep with a hard-fought 3-1 (25-23, 26-24, 25-27, 25-22) victory over Parkside Saturday. Rachel Zurek had 17 kills, Jacqueline Yancy had 16, and Maddie Torola added 8. Tess Hayes had 39 assists.
The NMU volleyball squad also closed out a weekend sweep, with an equally hard-fought 3-0 (26-24, 27-25, 25-22) victory over Roosevelt Saturday. McKenzie Gruner had 15 kills for the Wildcats.
College Soccer
The Tech women’s soccer team will host third-ranked Grand Valley today at noon.
The NMU women’s soccer team welcomes Davenport today.
The NMU men’s team will play at Roosevelt today.
MLB
The Tigers clinched a playoff berth with a tight 2-1 victory over the Red Sox Saturday. Jahmai Jones singled home both Detroit runs in the fifth inning. Keider Montero pitched into the fifth, allowing one run on five hits. Four relievers allowed Boston just two more hits over the duration.
The Guardians also clinched a post-season berth, defeating the Rangers 3-2 when Texas pitcher Robert Garcia hit Cleveland batter C.J. Kayfus with a pitch with the score tied and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to send home the winning run.
Detroit and Cleveland remain tied atop the American League Central Division, heading into today’s final game of the regular season. The Guardians own the tiebreaker, having taken the season series from the Tigers. If both teams win, or both teams lose, Cleveland claims the title. A loss by Cleveland and a win by Detroit would give the Tigers the crown.
The Tigers finish the regular season in Boston this afternoon. Chris Paddack will return from the bullpen to start for Detroit. The Sox have not named a starter. Coverage will begin at 2:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers fell to the Reds 7-4 Saturday. Cincinnati scored six runs off Robert Gasser and Jacob Misiorowski in the third inning. Jackson Chourio homered.
The Brewers welcome the Reds again today. Freddy Peralta will pitch against Brady Singer.
Milwaukee has sent pitcher Bruce Zimmermann back to Nashville.
Longtime Detroit broadcaster Ray Lane has died. Lane served as sports director and anchor for two Detroit television stations for many years. He shared the Tigers radio booth with Ernie Harwell from 1967 through 1972, including their World Series-winning year in 1968. Over the years, he took part in broadcasts involving the University of Michigan, Michigan State and other colleges, along with the Pistons and a lengthy stint as the Red Wings’ TV broadcast host. Lane was 95 years old, and passed away from complications following a fall at his home.
NHL
The Red Wings suffered a 5-2 exhibition loss to the Sabres on Saturday. Patrick Kane and Marco Kasper scored for Detroit. Sebastian Cossa took the loss in net.
The Wings host the Penguins Monday evening.
NFL
The Lions host the Browns in a 1:00 game today. Because of Tigers baseball, there will be no Lions broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.
The Vikings face the Steelers in Dublin, Ireland this morning. Coverage will begin at 9:15 on 99.3 The Lift. The Packers play tonight’s game at Dallas, with coverage at 7:30 on 99.3 The Lift.
