In high school football last night…
- Menominee overpowered Houghton 56-12.
- Calumet dropped a 17-15 nailbiter at Kingsford. The Flivvers dominated the first half, completing a 55-yard 11-play drive with a three-yard Ian Spencer touchdown run early in the second quarter for a touchdown, while holding the Copper Kings’ offense to just 26 net yards. Calumet responded in the second half. After recovering a Kingsford fumble on the opening kickoff, the Kings marched to the one-yard line, but turned the ball over on downs. Calumet forced a Flivvers punt from their five-yard line, and returned it to the Kingsford 25. Four plays later, Tyler Halonen ran 18 yards to tie the game 7-7. Kingsford reclaimed the lead on the next possession, capping a 66-yard drive with a three-yard touchdown toss from Blake Tomasoski to Brock Flaminio. A long Oskar Loukus kickoff return set up a short Calumet drive that ended with a 17-yard Halonen to Trent Anderson touchdown pass to trim the Flivvers’ lead to 14-13. The Copper Kings attempt at a two-point conversion failed, but a Kingsford penalty gave them another show, and Ben Anderson plunged in to give Calumet their first lead of the game. With 2:35 remaining, Kingsford drove from their own 38 to the Calumet five-yard line, where they faced fourth-and-goal. With 30 seconds on the clock, Gaige Sorenson booted a 22-yard field goal to reclaim the lead for the Flivvers.
