Houghton’s Planning Commission will consider amendments to two large parcels in the city for housing developments in the community.
On Tuesday the Houghton Planning commission will hold two public hearings on two zoning amendments for two projects. One development led by the Houghton Housing Commission seeks to build in the Waterworks Neighborhood west of M-26, in an area that was left undeveloped from the 1980’s. The Houghton Housing Commission seeks to rezone to parcel from R-1 single family to R-3 multifamily zoning to develop duplex or quadplex homes.
A second public hearing the planning commission will hold tomorrow evening would rezone a parcel near the Super 8 motel on East lakeshore Drive. Houghton Quality Housing wishes to amend the parcel’s zoning from RSV reserve to R-3 multifamily to build four-unit condominiums south of the street. The project scope would plan to purchase a small city owned parcel adjacent to the site for development as well.
The Houghton Planning commission meeting will begin at 5 pm inside the council chambers at Houghton city Center.
