College Football
The 24th-ranked Michigan Tech football team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling to Upper Iowa 21-14 in the annual homecoming game. The Peacocks scored all of their points in the second quarter. Alex Bueno ran for one Huskies’ touchdown, and passed for another.
NMU dropped its homecoming game to Davenport Saturday, 35-16. Noah Dobert had touchdown runs of 32 and 22 yards for the Wildcats, who remain winless.
College Volleyball
The Michigan Tech volleyball team lost 3-0 (35-33, 25-16, 25-17) at Davenport Saturday. Jacqueline Yancy had 15 kills for the Huskies, Rachel Zurek added 11, and former Calumet standout Madelyn Torola added five.
The NMU volleyball squad dropped a 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-18) decision at 12th-ranked Ferris State Saturday. Sydney Bartels led the Wildcats with 11 kills.
College Soccer
The Michigan Tech women’s soccer team plays at Roosevelt this afternoon.
The Northern women’s team will play at Parkside today.
MLB
The Tigers’ struggles continued with a 6-5 loss to the Braves on Saturday. Detroit built a 6-3 lead, but Atlanta plated one in the eighth, and won the game with two runs off Will Vest in the top of the ninth. Zach McKinstry and Spencer Torkelson homered.
The Guardians took both ends of a doubleheader against the Twins, shrinking Detroit’s lead in the American League Central Division to just one game with one week remaining in the regular season.
The Tigers have lost eight of their last nine, and will host the Braves again this afternoon. Casey Mize will start against Spencer Strider. Coverage will begin at 1:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers shaded the Cardinals 3-2 on Saturday. Brice Turang singled home Jackson Chourio with the winning run in the top of the 10th.
The Brewers visit the Cardinals again tonight. Erick Fedde will pitch against Matthew Liberatore.
Milwaukee has designated pitcher Joel Payamps for assignment. Bruce Zimmerman has been brought up from Nashville to take his place.
NFL
The Packers visit the Browns for a 1:00 game today.
The Chief visit the Giants for the Sunday night contest. Coverage will begin at 7:30 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Lions travel to Baltimore for the Monday night game.
