In high school volleyball last night…
- Houghton dropped the first set to Negaunee, then came back to take a 3-1 (15-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-12) victory. Lydia Williams had 7 kills, 13 assists and 9 digs for the Gremlins. Alyssa Northey had 16 assists, 18 digs, and 3 aces, Ellie Hainault had 6 kills, and Emmy Pietila had 23 digs and 2 aces.

- Chassell fell to Ewen-Trout Creek 3-0 (25-17, 25-24, 25-6). For Chassell, Sylvia Aho had 21 assists and 2 aces, Elli Kuntze had 12 kills, 1 block and 2 aces, Dusty Lippold had 5 kills and 16 digs, Oriana Olson had 5 kills and 18 digs, and Ella Hermanson had 2 aces.
- West Iron County lost to Westwood 3-1 (25-16, 17-25, 25-17, 25-20).

At the Panther-Blue Bolt Invitational on the Chassell Trails yesterday afternoon…
- Jeffers easily won the boys’ side, with Dollar Bay-Tamarack City second. Jets runners took five of the first six individual positions, with Cameron Anderson first by a wide margin, and Landon Larson second.
- L’Anse took first place on the girls’ side, with Calumet second, followed by Ewen-Trout Creek, Jeffers and Chassell. Bree Besonen from Ewen-Trout Creek was the individual winner, followed by Purple Hornets Princess Pierre, Lily Froese and Kwynn Voskuhl. The top five runners finished within 15 seconds of each other.

College Football
The 24th-ranked Michigan Tech football team entertains Upper Iowa for the annual Homecoming game tomorrow at 4:00.
NMU welcomes Davenport tomorrow at 1:00.

The Michigan Tech volleyball team plays at Ferris State this evening, and Davenport tomorrow.
The NMU volleyball squad visits Davenport this evening, and Ferris State tomorrow.

The Michigan Tech women’s soccer team plays at Parkside this afternoon.
The Northern woman’s team plays at Roosevelt this afternoon.
The Northern men’s team hosts Parkside today at noon.
MLB
The Tigers’ late-season fade continued with a 3-1 loss to the Guardians yesterday. Tarik Skubal gave up a run over six innings. Troy Melton took the loss in relief. Colt Keith’s RBI double in the second inning was one of just five Detroit hits.
The Tigers’ lead in the American League Central falls to three-and-a-half games over the Guardians. Detroit will host the Braves tonight. Charlie Morton will start against Bryce Elder. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
Keith left the game in the second inning after his back tightened up. He’ll be evaluated today.
The Tigers have brought pitcher Paul Sewald off the injured list. Sewald was obtained from the Guardians at the trade deadline, and has been recovering from a shoulder problem. To make room on the 40-man roster, they released pitcher Codi Heuer. He has also been sidelined with a shoulder injury. To make room on the 25-man roster, pitcher Jose Urquidy has been designated for assignment. He has already agreed to stay in the Detroit organization, and report to Toledo.
The Brewers completed a sweep of the Angels with a 5-2 victory last evening. Chad Durbin had two hits and drove in two runs.
The Brewers have won five of their last six, and visit the Cardinals tonight. Jacob Misiorowski will pitch against Sonny Gray.
NFL
In last night’s NFL game, the Bills outscored the Dolphins 31-21. Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen threw three touchdown passes, and became the fastest player ever to reach 300 TD tosses in his career.
The Packers visit the Browns for a 1:00 game Sunday.
The Lions travel to Baltimore for the Monday night game.
