Gloria Kathleen “Kathy” Danielson, age 79 of Baraga passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday September 9th, 2025 surrounded by her husband and children. Kathy was born on November 12, 1945 in L’Anse MI. She was the beloved wife of George Danielson for 61 years. Kathy was the eldest daughter of Joseph “Smuck” and Gloria (VanAbel) Darcy of Baraga.
Kathy graduated from Baraga High School in 1963. She continued her education at NMU and graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse in May of 1964. Kathy started working at BCMH in June of 1964 and dedicated the next 37 years to her patients before retiring in 2007. Kathy was a devoted member of St Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, spending time with her family and friends, her monthly lunches with her retired nursing friends, and The Red Hats ladies.
Kathy wore many hats in her life: wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and caregiver.
Her family was her world. Kathy was the matriarch of her family; the glue that held everything and everyone together.
She especially cherished her children: George (JoAnne) Danielson of Keweenaw Bay, Kristine (Dean) Paavola of Tucson, Arizona, Michele (Brian) Donahue, and Julie Parkila both of Chassell.
In addition to her children, Kathy is loved and will be missed terribly by her grandchildren: Anthony, Kathryn, Rebecca, Daniel, Kirsten, Adam, Erika, Dustin, Jana and step grandson Derek. Great grandchildren: Hotze, Anakin, Ira, Sonnie, Beckett, Finn, Hazel, Henry, Caleb, Elouise, Emilia, Quinn and Kate. Siblings Linda (Larry) Elsner of Durand WI, Joe (Jane) Darcy of Marquette MI, and John (Heidi) Darcy of L’Anse, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 15, 2025 at St Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga with Father Ben Rivard, Celebrant. The family will greet friends at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Immediately following Mass, interment will take place in the Baraga Cemetery. A luncheon will then be held in the church hall.
