Calumet celebrates 150 years of history and heritage in the village this weekend. Over Friday night and saturday visitors and residents will get a snapshot of what the village looked like when copper mine production was at a peak. And calumet was one of the most populated towns in the state. Throughout the year the village fills up with people attending various festivals, the start of Copper Dog, and each Saturday at the Farmer’s Market.
I think partially we are seeing a little bit of resurgence in population. People are starting to come back home after they’ve left and spent their careers in other places. And I think that people really feel strongly about being tied to the community right now. Feeling like you’re part of something and also respecting what was here before is something that I think is dear to people. – Megan Haselden, VIllage Manager, Calumet
Friday night the village will host a cocktail hour soiree before the friends of fashion welcomes the community to a fashion show. Saturday activities will include music, food trucks, a beer tent sponsored by the fire department, and games for kids and parents, face painting and even free ice cream. The block part will begin at 3 pm on Saturday followed by fireworks at 9 pm. Learn more about calumet celebration of 150 years can find more details online.
