Cheryl Kay Carlson of Laurium, Michigan passed away on September 7, at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium after a lengthy health battle.

They were married in 1973 at Sacred Heart Church in Calumet and welcomed three children to their family. Cheryl worked as a bookkeeper at McCabe Distributing in Laurium for 25 years until her retirement.
Anyone who knew Cheryl was immediately drawn in by her infectious smile, warm personality and sense of humor. Cheryl loved her grandchildren and rarely missed their events. She was always willing to volunteer and was a proud and devoted supporter of Calumet Schools. She enjoyed attending band concerts, plays, and athletics. She served as the president of the Calumet Band Parents for many years and enjoyed accompanying them to Walt Disney World on several occasions. She was honored to be the first woman elected to the CLK school board where she served for 21 years. Her love of service continued through 2025 where she was a part of the Calumet High School scholarship committee.
Cheryl had many interests in life including being a member of the singing group, Noteworthy, participating in local leagues for bowling and golf, and was an avid Detroit sports fan. She loved to travel whenever possible and enjoyed many trips with her grandchildren. She loved her trips to Laughlin with her husband and friends, but spending time at the Kohler camp at Lake Medora was her favorite activity.
Anyone who knew Cheryl knew of her love for gatherings. Whether it was a holiday party with dozens of people or a few people sitting in the living room watching The Voice, Cheryl enjoyed having company and their presence made her feel special. Her motto was: “The more the merrier.”
Cheryl is preceded in death by her parents, and brother-in-law Jerry (Theresa) Carlson.
