Michigan’s unemployment rate rose by more than a half percent in July, compared to June.
The Department of Technology, Management and Budget pegs the rate at 6.0 percent, compared to 5.4 percent in June, and 5.7 percent in July of 2024.
The figures are not adjusted to reflect typical seasonal fluctuations. Officials say that Michigan typically experiences a bit of an uptick each July.
The Upper Peninsula rate inched upward from 6.6 to 6.7 percent. The July 2024 figure was 6.2 percent.
Locally, Houghton County’s unemployment rate fell from 6.9 percent in June to 6.6 percent in July. Baraga County rose from 6.9 percent to 7.1 percent. Keweenaw County improved from 6.8 percent to 6.2 percent. Ontonagon County held steady at 8.4 percent.
