Pasty Fest has a new champion. Before the battle could start at Fifth street and Oak Street, Calumet filled with festival goers.
At noon knights, followed by the Michigan Tech Pep Band and Calumet Marching Band met on opposing sides to determine what sauce a pasty pair with the best. Supporters of Ketchup were backed by the pep band and Firey trumpets. While gravy gained support from the locals standing behind the high school’s mighty marching band. A brief scuffle broke out until the pasty fest court called on the knights to cease their bitter rivalry for all things good and pasty. Enemies became friends and proceeded to the Keweenaw National Historic Park where lines of people waited to receive a delicious pasty. Some even took part in the annual pasty bake off.
