Charlie Morton couldn’t get through the fifth inning, as the Tigers fell to the Angels 7-4 Saturday. Morton struck out 10, but gave up seven hits, including two homers, and was charged with six runs. Javier Báez had three hits for Detroit.
The Tigers host the Angels again this afternoon. Casey Mize will pitch against Jack Kochanowicz. Coverage will begin at 1:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
Wenceel Pérez left last night’s game after fouling a pitch off his foot. It’s swollen, but tests showed no structural damage, and he’s considered day-to-day.
The Brewers’ win streak reached eight Saturday night, with a 7-4 victory over the Mets. Milwaukee put the game away by scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, all with two out. Brice Turang and William Contreras homered.
The Brewers wrap up that home set against the Mets this afternoon. Quinn Priester will pitch against Sean Manaea.
NFL
The Packers’ opened their NFL preseason with a 30-10 loss to the Jets. Four Green Bay quarterbacks completed just 10 of 22 passes for 64 yards. Amar Johnson rushed for 67 yards.
Lions safety Morice Norris is apparently okay, after that scary hit that forced an early end to Detroit’s exhibition contest Saturday night. Norris laid on the field for 20 minutes after the collision, and was taken to a hospital. Yesterday morning, he used a social media post to thank fans for their concern, and assure them that he wasn’t seriously injured.
