Kerry Carpenter’s mammoth two-run homer in the top of the sixth broke a 3-3 tie, and the Tigers went on to claim a 6-3 victory over the Twins last night. The 437-foot drive was the longest of Carpenter’s career. It also provided Casey Mize with his 10th win of the season. Mize gave up three runs over six innings. Wenceel Pérez and Dillon Dingler also homered.
The Tigers continue that home set against the Twins tonight. Chris Paddack will pitch against Zebby Matthews. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
Doctors have determined that Detroit pitcher Reese Olson will not need surgery to repair his strained shoulder. He’ll miss the rest of the regular season, but could return if the Tigers make a playoff run.
The Brewers shut down the Braves 3-1 to claim their fourth straight win. All of Milwaukee’s scoring came on a three-run homer by Isaac Collins. Quinn Priester gave up a solo homer in the first inning, then cruised through the seventh to earn his 11th win of the season.
The Brewers visit the Braves again tonight. Freddy Peralta will pitch against former Tiger Joey Wentz.

Former Detroit backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater may be available this fall. Bridgewater retired from the Lions after the 2023 season, and became the head football coach at Miami Northwest High School. He returned to Detroit late last season after leading his high school squad to a state title, then stepped down again. Miami Northwest now has suspended Bridgewater for the upcoming season, after he reported that he had provided meals and Uber rides for some of his players last fall. At age 32, he says he’s open to returning to the pro ranks.
Lions’ cornerback Ennis Rakestraw could miss extended time, after suffering a shoulder injury in practice Sunday. Evaluations continue.
Packers’ cornerback Nate Hobbs is recovering from knee surgery. Team officials said the procedure was minor, and he could be ready to start the regular season.
Green Bay has brought back cornerback Corey Ballentine. He had signed a free agent contract with the Colts, but was released last week.
