A local 4H member earned the Junior Goat Science award at the recent 4H state Awards.
Recently, 38 4-H members from around the state gathered at Michigan State University for the annual Michigan 4-H State Awards Recognition Program. Aleah Simpson, a member of the Houghton Keweenaw 4-H Club and Country Roots & Dirty Boots 4-H Club, earned the 2025 Junior Goat Science award. Her award at the state competition was the result of her hard work and dedication to goat husbandry, health, nutrition, and showmanship.
Local chapter program coordinator Anne Kretschmann says Simpson exemplifies a key component of 4-H programs through her service to her community. Through work with the program, Simpson has expanded leadership skills while serving with the Houghton Keweenaw 4-H Council as a teen leader.
The annual Michigan 4-H State Awards are hosted by the Michigan State University Extension and offer competitive agriculture programs and educational opportunities to teens and children in Michigan.
