The Tigers’ bats were quiet again last evening in a 6-1 loss to the Blue Jays. Tarik Skubal did his part to try to snap the Bengals out of their funk, striking out seven over six scoreless innings. Toronto broke through with two runs off Will Vest in the eighth, and broke the game open with four off Chase Lee in the ninth. Detroit collected just two hits, with their only run coming with two outs in the ninth on an RBI groundout by Riley Greene.
The Tigers have lost 12 of their last 13, and host the Blue Jays again this afternoon. Jack Flaherty will face Max Scherzer. Coverage will begin at 1:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Tigers made a number of roster moves yesterday. With Skubal back from the paternity list, Keider Montero was sent back to Toledo. Skubal and his wife were anticipating the baby would be born late last week. It didn’t happen. While he’s no longer eligible for the paternity list, he will spend the next few days with his family, ahead of his next scheduled start on Friday.
Detroit designated pitcher Geoff Hartlieb for assignment. They sold the contract of outfielder Brewer Hicklen, who had also recently been designated for assignment, to the Phillies. They signed journeyman pitcher Luke Jackson, who was recently released by the Rangers.
The Brewers dropped their second straight game, 7-4 to the Marlins. Jose Quintana allowed five runs over five innings, and took the loss. Andrew Vaughn homered.
The Brewers entertain the Marlins again this afternoon. Brandon Woodruff will pitch against Eury Pérez.
Sal Frelick is back with the Brewers, after some time on the injured list with a sore hamstring. Tyler Black has been returned to Nashville.
