Heavy rains are again causing flooding problems in the region.
Weather stations in the Chassell area reported as much as four inches of rain from Tuesday evening through mid-day yesterday. An additional inch was recorded late yesterday.
Some flooding was reported along US-41 in the Chassell area, and Massie Road was closed.
Some events were canceled, including the Chassell Farmers Market, trash pickup in the Chassell area, and Copper Shores Meals on Wheels deliveries and the congregate meal site at the Chassell fire station.
Centennial Park was also closed. This morning’s Keweenaw Family Resource Center Playtime in the Park, which had been scheduled for Centennial Park, has been moved to the Tree House Indoor Playground. As with the weekly outdoor events, the 10:00 session is designed for children four years of age and younger, although older siblings may also participate.

Damage was also reported in Misery Bay, where some roads were washed out by four inches of rain. Deb Lindgren told our colleagues at MyUPNow that the small creek behind their camp on Wolf Creek Road turned into a torrent.
It went all the way up to the sauna, all the way across all that land – it was that high.
Erosion caused by recent rains is threatening their camp and outbuildings.
A Flood Watch posted for the entire region yesterday has expired. While there is a chance of some isolated showers and storms yet this morning, skies are expected to clear later today. Another weather front could bring more rain to the area Sunday night and Monday.
