Juhannus raises 10,000 dollars to support Copper Country Finns and Friends events, programs, and projects. Recently, Visit Keweenaw presented the Copper Country Fins and Friends group with funds raised at the 2025 Juhannus celebration.
The funds will come just in time, too, as Hancock recently earned the honor of being the Finno-Ugric Capital of Culture in 2026. The designation is expected to bring many new friends to the region, as people explore their cultural connections to the copper country, and explore the community’s heritage. Hancock is the first capital of culture to earn the status outside of Europe.
Copper Country Finns and Friends President Jim Kurtti says visit Keweenaw’s generous gift to the group will make a big difference, and empower Finns and friends to bring to fruition fantastic plans for festive celebrations throughout the year.
The group expects Heikinpaiva to open the year, while Juhannus creates a special celebration, inviting the Finno-Ugric international community to Hancock.
