In Copper Country Fast Pitch Softball League play last night…

The game between JB’s Sales and Service and Gold Standard was canceled.
Superior Service defeated Northern Wishes 12-5. Josie Heinonen was the winning pitcher, and had a double and three singles. Milly Loukus had a double and two singles, Kaydence Pizzi had a double and a single and Gracie Moyle had two singles for Superior. For Northern Wishes, Meg Ruohonen had a double and two singles, and Sylvia Aho and Naomi Frahm each had a double.
Finnish Coat got past Old Bats of Michigan Made 6-4. Lena Myhren was the winning pitcher. For Finnish Coat, Myhren, Ryleigh Johnson and Brynn Arko each had two singles. For Old Bats of Michigan Made, Alana Nolan had two singles and Mel Baker had one.

Finnish Coat and Northern Wishes will play a make-up game this evening at 7:00 at the Bone Yard.

MLB

The Tigers collected just five hits in a 3-0 loss to the Pirates last night. Jack Flaherty gave up all three Pittsburgh runs in the third inning, and did not return for the fourth.

The Tigers have lost seven of their last eight games, and visit the Pirates again tonight. Casey Mize will face Mitch Keller. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit will add a new starting pitcher to the rotation tomorrow. There are reports that fast-rising prospect Troy Melton will be brought up from Toledo. Melton was the Tigers’ fourth-round pick out of San Diego State in 2022. He began this season at Double-A Erie before being promoted to the Mud Hens. In eight appearances with Toledo, he averaged better than one strikeout per inning, with a 2.72 ERA.

The Brewers blanked the Mariners 6-0, and claimed their 11th straight win last evening. Brandon Woodruff allowed just two hits over six innings. Jackson Chourio had two hits and drove in two runs. Christian Yelich had two hits and scored twice.

The win vaulted the Brewers past the Cubs into first place in the National League Central Division, and past the Tigers for the best record in Major League Baseball. The Crew will visit the Mariners again this evening. Jacob Misiorowski will pitch against Logan Gilbert.

NFL

The Packers have signed a four-year contract extension with right tackle Zach Tom. The $88 million deal makes him one of the highest-paid linemen in the NFL.
