Last week, Visit Keweenaw announced the recipients of the 2025 destination development program grants. This year’s funds will support a variety of projects around the region. The largest award of 25,000 dollars will support the Hancock Trails Club’s Creekside Bike Park, with a portion of funds supporting the MEDC fundraising campaign.
Another project in Hancock receiving an award includes a $15,300 grant given to the city of Hancock for the Christmas light display at the Hancock campground, a part of Hancock Lights Up the Night. The Finlandia Foundation National will also receive a 5000 dollar grant to support the Finnish American Heritage Trail project.
In Calumet, the Swedetown Trails club will receive 15,000 dollars. And the Keweenaw snowmobile and ATV clubs will use $20,000 for the Calumet trailhead project. The Keweenaw County Road Commission will use a destination development grant to support the construction and installation of roadside park tables.
The destination development grant program has provided financial support for a variety of projects and programs in the Copper Country, to promote outdoor recreation among residents and visitors.
