With 150 years in existence, Calumet has plenty of history to explore. Many visitors and residents might start their tour of town at the Keweenaw National Historic Park. Calumet’s history and influence in the region spread far and wide. The village was the center for much of the mining industry’s administration. At the same time, the Quincy mine hoisted a majority of the region’s copper.
The Quincy Mine Hoist, now a heritage site with the KNHP, will celebrate Calumet’s rich history with a conversation on the village’s past and role in the community’s culture. Specifically focusing on the Calumet Theatre during a history program tomorrow evening.
Archivist Jeremiah Mason and Calumet Theatre board chairman Dan Jamison will lead a discussion to explore the area’s unique history over 150 years in Calumet, and 125 years taking center stage at the theater.
The event will begin at 6 pm on Wednesday at the 1894 hoist house at the Quincy mine. Learn more online.
