More than 20 students take part in a shooting competition at Camp Gibbs Recreational Area. Last month, Camp Gibbs hosted the annual 4-H Upper Peninsula Regional Shooting tournament. Participants in the tournament are involved members of 4-H clubs in Iron, Houghton, Keweenaw, and Delta counties, and compete in BB, .22, unsighted archery, and open archery competitions. Members of Houghton Keweenaw 4-H competed in five events, and 6 events in the senior competition. Aleah Simpson and Trent Simpson of the Houghton Keweenaw program earned honors at the tournament in the unsighted archery senior division. The pair also placed as runners-up in the .22 team event.
The annual 4-H Upper Peninsula shooting tournament was supported by Camp Gibbs, Ojibway Archery Range, Gibbs City Pistol Club, Hiawatha Shotgun Club, Xtreme Outdoors, and Bump’s Burgers. The shooting tournament offers a place for youth to practice and compete in shooting skill competitions and practice proper firearm safety and handling.
