Summers across the Copper Country have full schedules. Plenty of work to do. And plenty of fun to have. But for families, the season can come with challenges. Especially when finding engaging activities for young children.
Strengthen, enrich, and support family life in the Copper Country, and one of the ways we do that is by making sure there are engaging activities for you and your child to participate in. So this summer, we have a variety of activities planned, including our long-standing playtime in the park program. – Iola Brubaker, executive director, Treehouse Family Resources
And so I feel like I’m able to facilitate and be part of and like witness that bond that’s been strengthening and play time in the park is one of those programs that we have that does involve the whole family, all of the siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents, especially if they’re up visiting, which a lot of people do in the summer. – Emily Blake, family support and community outreach coordinator, Treehouse Family Resource Center
One of the three house indoor playgrounds’ longest-running summer programs sets aside time and space for playing in the park. On Thursday, family support and community outreach coordinator Emily Blake says, the group’s very excited to help add to Rocky the Snake in Hancock.
I think the names are also on the rocks, so kids can go and see their names on the rocks and point out and remember the time that they spent together doing it. Just another fun family memory that can kind of live in the community. – Emily Blake, family support and community outreach coordinator, Treehouse Family Resource Center
Keweenaw Family Resource Center executive director Iola Brubaker says finding access to child care is not easy. And a part of why playtime in the park and other programs allow families to connect and build an organic network.
There’s also a BHK program for school-aged children that’s happening at CLK this summer. So, families that are looking for childcare can call us. We’ll connect you to what we know is available or give you some resources to hunt out what programs are the best fit for your children. It’s also time to think about registering your kids for fall preschool. So if you haven’t done so, get hold of us and we’ll let you know how to get registered for fall preschool. – Iola Brubaker, executive director, Treehouse Family Resources
Later in July, the treehouse indoor playground plans to host a family fun day that Brubaker says will include more than just fun for kids.
On July 29th, at Culver, we’ll have a free custard for any family that comes and connects with us. We’ll give you a scoopie token, and we’ll have activities at the tables for you. So, July is packed full of activities for families. – Iola Brubaker, executive director, Treehouse Family Resources
The treehouse indoor playground offers advocacy and support programs throughout the year. It is open all year round for families to come in and beat the heat or get out of the cold and snow. Go online to learn more about the treehouse indoor playground and its programs this summer.
Play time in the park on July 10th at Hancock Beach will invite families to join the fun at 10. Play time in the park moves to different parks in the region throughout the summer.
