Janet Laurel Beilman, 80, a resident of Lake Linden, Michigan, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, June 22, 2025. Janet was born on June 4, 1945, to Clement and Geraldine Beilman and was raised in Tamarack City. She attended St. Cecilia School in Hubbell where she graduated from 8th grade in 1958. Janet was an avid reader and was involved in education for most of her adult life. After her graduation she began her freshman year at Alverno College, Milwaukee, where she joined the Order of School Sisters of St. Francis of Milwaukee. In August 1964, she pronounced her first vows at St. Joseph Convent, Milwaukee and received her BA in History from Alverno College in 1966. From 1966 to 1968 she taught at St. Peter’s school in Skokie, Illinois before receiving a partial scholarship from the Northwestern University School of Law, where she had hoped to obtain her law degree. Janet then began teaching 6th grade at CLK Schools in Calumet, where she taught for a number of years before enrolling in seminary.
In May 1980 she received her Master of Arts in Christian School Administration from Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, Indiana. Janet taught for 23 years and was Principal at Copper Country Christian School in Chassell. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Calumet.
She became a resident at Canal View in Hancock on January 2023. Janet is survived by two cousins, Jim Huff and Mary Sotir. A celebration of Janet’s life will be held at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet on Wednesday, July 2nd, with visitation at 10 am followed by a memorial service at 11 am with Pastor Tony Laidlaw officiating. A luncheon will be provided at noon followed by a brief graveside service at Lakeview Cemetery in Calumet. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Copper Country Christian School or to the First Baptist Church of Calumet. Though we miss Janet and grieve here on earth, there is rejoicing in heaven!
