Rosalie “Rose” Jean Freeman, 87, of Chassell, MI, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, at Canal View, with loved ones by her side.
Born on April 19, 1938, in Calumet, MI, Rosalie was the beloved daughter of Martin and Anne (Sorenson) Mihelich. Her Childhood was spent in the family-built home on Lakeshore Drive in Calumet, lovingly known as the Homestead.
She grew up in Calumet and later pursued manufacturing and real estate careers, but found her true calling as a nurse’s aide at Houghton County Medical Care, where her compassion touched countless lives.
Rosalie was a proud member of the women’s Auxiliary at the VFW post 6507 in Chassell and a longtime member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell, where she built deep and lasting friendships within her community.
Rosalie’s vibrant spirit, humor, and genuine heart made her unforgettable. She loved spending time with family, searching for treasures at rummage sales and thrift stores, walking the shores of Lake Superior in search of prized agates, and playing endless games of Rummy with her husband, “Bob”, or anyone that would challenge her. She shared a special bond with her cherished German Shepherd/Malamute Husky mix, Scooby.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert Freeman; her sister, Margorie Sten; her daughters, Jacqueline Hoganson, Patricia (Gary) Jorgenson, and Linda Freeman; and her sons, Tod (Denise) Hoganson and Robert Freeman Jr.
Rosalie’s legacy continues through her fourteen grandchildren- Jamie and Jessica Hoganson, Alex Waisanen, Mackenzie Maki, Brandy Charleston, Nicole Gauthier, Sarah Schadewald, Breanna Freeman, Carson Freeman, Mia Murphy, Noah Murphy, Jayson Sypniewski, Rochelle Seguin, Kelly Luck, and her many beloved great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Marianne, Doris (“Dodo”), and Claire; and her brother, Daniel.
A service will be held at Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Chassell, MI, on July 7, 2025. A
Visitation will be at 1:00 pm with a funeral to follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will be at the Chassell Cemetery Veteran Section at 3:00 pm, with a luncheon at the Chassell VFW Post 6507 at 4:00 pm.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Canal View for the
compassionate care given to Rosalie during her time there as a beloved resident. Her memory will live on through the lives she touched with her kindness, laughter, and love.
