Laurium will continue working with Moyle Construction on plans for the new Department of Public Works garage. Earlier in the year the village was struck by a fire at the garage. Over the past several months village manager Ian Lewis has worked with insurance adjusters to file claims for the loss of the structure and the majority of Laurium’s equipment. With the help of Moyle, Laurium was able to claim more than a 3 million dollar value for the Department of Public Works.
Think at that time, the insurance carrier had offered you roughly $1.5 million in replacement value for the facility. We were able to work with the carrier on your behalf. It sounds like they’ve approved roughly $3,628,000. – Andrew Kemper, Project Manager, Moyle Construction
I don’t have any expertise when it comes time to buildings. I couldn’t have done what they did. They helped us up it by over 2.1 million dollars. It’s a huge win. They also helped get this done and well the fire took place back in February. We have now finalized all aspects of this project. – Ian Lewis, Village Manager, Laurium
Moyle Construction project manager Andrew Kemper says the company hopes to provide the village with a suitable space to store all of its equipment, and space for completing in-house repairs. Village Trustee John Erickson added Moyle will work with the village to build a cold storage facility in the coming months.
The initial offer which was $1.5 million, would’ve probably been a building that would last a generation or so. And would’ve barely, if anything, met your needs in the short term. With the funds we can get from your carrier, we’ll be able to build you a building that will suit your needs now and into the future. – Andrew Kemper, Project Manager, Moyle Construction
Lewis says the village has used about 66,000 dollars to support purchasing tools and will have additional funds to purchase additional equipment.
As Jeff mentioned, the equipment fund we’ve done incredibly well on and we should have after this billing cycle approximately $100,000 remaining in the equipment. We have hit all needs for the DPW. – Ian Lewis, Village Manager, Laurium
