Copper Shores begins engagement sessions on the Elder Nutrition Millage

Copper Shores Meals on Wheels hopes the community will help the organization stabilize and expand the program. In August Copper Shores Meals on Wheels will ask voters of Houghton County to consider supporting an elder nutrition millage. The program serves meals daily to seniors across Houghton County and in Baraga, and Keweenaw counties. Starting tomorrow evening Copper Shores leaders will host an engagement program at the Portage Lake District Library to share information about the program and millage rate.

Copper Shores recognize in recent years the Meals on Wheels program’s growth and importance to seniors living in the Copper Country. By adding an elder nutrition millage to support the program Copper Shores will ensure the program has steady support for many more years. Meals on Wheels programs have partly been supported by the federal government since 1965. Most programs receive about one-third of program funds through the Older Americans Act. The meeting tomorrow night will begin at 5 pm inside the Portage Lake District Libray. Find details for future engagement sessions throughout June and July online.
