The Tigers’ bullpen collapsed in the late innings yesterday, and Detroit lost their second straight game to the Reds 8-4. Home runs by Jahmai Jones and Wenceel Pérez helped the Bengals build a 4-2 lead by the end of the seventh inning. Cincinnati then clobbered Will Vest for three runs in the eighth, and added two more off Brenan Hanifee in the ninth to claim the win.
The Tigers have today off, and entertain the Pirates tomorrow. Casey Mize will start against Bailey Falter. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
Vest left the game after feeling discomfort in the pinkie finger on his pitching hand. He’ll be examined today.
The Tigers have designated struggling reliever John Brebbia for assignment. Brebbia had joined Detroit on a one-year, $2.25 million deal. Tyler Owens has been brought up from Toledo.
The Brewers held off the Cardinals 3-2 yesterday. Quinn Priester gave up a run on four hits over six strong innings. Christian Yelich homered.
The Brewers also take today off, and visit the Cubs tomorrow. Chad Patrick will pitch against Ben Brown.
NHL
Game six of the Stanley Cup Championship Series will be played tomorrow night in Florida. The Panthers lead the Oilers 3-2.
NBA
The NBA Championship Series is tied 2-2, and continues tonight, when the Thunder host the Pacers.
