Jack Flaherty couldn’t get through the fifth inning, as the Tigers suffered an 11-1 loss to the Reds Saturday. Flaherty held Cincinnati off the board over the first three innings, and gave up a run in the fourth. The wheels came off in the fifth, as the Red scored six times, with the big blow a grand slam by Tyler Stephenson. The Tigers, meanwhile, were held to just four hits, including a fourth-inning RBI single by Wenceel Pérez. Catcher Jake Rogers pitched the ninth inning for Detroit.
The Tigers entertain the Reds again this afternoon. Sawyer Gipson-Long will start against Wade Miley. Coverage will begin at 11:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
Reese Olson began his rehab assignment at Toledo Saturday, allowing two runs on two hits over 2.2 innings. He’s been out with a sore finger.
The Brewers dropped an 8-5 decision to the Cardinals Saturday. Jose Quintana was driven from the game in the fifth inning, was charged with seven runs on eight hits, and took the loss. William Contreras homered in the ninth for Milwaukee. His brother, Willson, also hit a ninth-inning home run for St. Louis. It was just the second time in major league history that brothers playing for opposing teams have hit a home run in the same inning. Rick and Wes Ferrell were the first to do it, in 1933.
The Brewers host the Cardinals again today. Quinn Priester will pitch against Miles Mikolas.
NHL
The Panthers pounced on the Oilers 5-2 last night, and took a 3-2 lead in the Stanley Cup Championship Series. Game six will be played Tuesday in Florida.
NBA
The NBA Championship Series is tied 2-2, and continues Monday, when the Thunder host the Pacers.
