Spencer Torkelson’s two-run homer propelled the Tigers to a 5-3 victory over the Orioles last evening. It was his 16th of the year. Brant Hurter opened for the Tigers, and pitched into the third, giving up one run. Sawyer Gipson-Long took over in the fourth, pitched into the eighth, and gave up another run. Baltimore’s final run came off Will Vest in the ninth.
The Tigers play in Baltimore again tonight . Casey Mize will start against Zach Eflin. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
Detroit outfielder Akil Baddoo has cleared waivers after having been designated for assignment. He’s been returned to Toledo.
The Brewers stopped the Braves 4-1 last night. Jackson Chourio and Jake Bauers homered. Quinn Priester gave up a run on seven hits over six innings.
The Brewers host the Braves this afternoon. Chad Patrick is scheduled to pitch against Spencer Schwellenbach, although there are reports that Milwaukee might call up their top pitching prospect, Jacob Misiorowski, to make the start.
Milwaukee has called pitcher Easton McGee up from Nashville, and sent Grant Anderson down.
NHL
The Panthers host the Oilers tomorrow. Florida leads the Stanley Cup Championship Series 2-1.
The Red Wings have signed Czech goaltender Michal Postava to a two-year, entry-level contract. Postava is 23 years old. Last season, he had a 2.39 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage for HC Kometa Brno, as they win the Czech Extraliga championship.
NBA
The Pacers host the Thunder tonight. The NBA Championship Series is tied 1-1.
NFL
The Packers have released two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander, after seven seasons. Injuries had limited Alexander to just 14 games over the past two years.
Golf
The L’Anse High School football team will host a golf fundraiser at the L’Anse Course on Sunday. Four-person teams will have a shotgun start at 9 am. Lunch is included. Participation is limited to 18 teams. To register, call or text Mike at (906) 362-1845.
The annual Barbara Kettle Gundlach golf fundraiser will be staged June 28th at the Calumet Club. It’s a four-person team scramble, with a cost of $50 per person.
