KORC completes its most successful annual peninsula clean up event in five years.
Since 2020, the Keweenaw Outdoor Recreation Coalition in mid-May has organized groups for clean-up sites throughout Houghton and Keweenaw counties. Each year the organization cleans up former dump sites that were once common in the community. As well as having groups travel many busy hiking trails, roadside parks, and beaches where people may have forgotten a wrapper or two. This year’s clean up event collected more than 5800 pounds of refuse.
After groups completed work at each site, many volunteers met in Copper Harbor at Donny Kilpela Memorial Park for an annual KORC Clean Up Day picnic. Volunteers enjoyed relaxing after completing a day of hard work and even earned chances at various prizes during the picnic.
